Musical Style Analysis

Pop Punk

Pop punk developed from punk rock, new wave and hard-core punk. It typically mixes fast tempos, power chords and distorted guitars with pop melodies and themes. It was a popular genre in the 90s and early 2000s. It is still popular today but less commercially successful.

Bands in the genre
Blink - 182

Blink - 182 formed in the suburbs of San Diego, California, under the name Blink. They released their first EP, Flyswatter in 1993. The original line up was Tom Delonge, Mark Hoppus, Scott Raynor. In 1998, Scott Raynor left and Travis Barker joined. Blink - 182 released 'Enema Of The State' in 1999, which included the singles 'What's My Age Again?' and 'All The Small Things'. This album sold well and boosted Blink - 182's fame. In 2005, they announced a hiatus. They reunited in 2009. In 2015, Tom Delonge left. They later released California with Matt Skiba doing vocals in 2016.

Green Day
Green Day was formed in 1989 in Northern California and were originally a punk band, however, as time went on, they have added more pop elements into their music and their sound has evolved into a more pop punk style. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist, Billie Joe Armstrong, bass guitarist, Mike Dirnt and drummer, TrĂ© Cool. Their first full album was released in 1991 and their major label debut was in 1994, when they released 'Dookie'. In 2004 they released 'American Idiot', a rebellious, politically fuelled album that included well known songs such as 'American Idiot', 'When September Ends' and 'Boulevard Of Broken Dreams'.

Paramore
Paramore was formed in Franklin, Tennessee. Hayley Williams (vocalist) had originally signed to Atlantic Records as a solo artist but disagreed with the label about the direction of her music. She managed to convince the label to let her form a band. The band originally consisted of Hayley Williams, Josh and Zac Farro, guitarist Jason Bynum and bassist Jeremy Davis.
Fueled by Ramen officially co-signed Paramore in april 2005 and they released 'All We Know Of Falling' later that year. Since the release of the album, Paramore has gone through multiple lineup change. In 2007, they release 'Riot', which went platinum within the first 13 months of release. This album included hit songs such as 'Misery Business and 'Crushcrushcrush'.

Paramore have always been changing their sound and it is most obvious in their latest two albums, 'Paramore' and 'After Laughter'. These albums opt for a 'poppier' sound and sound very different from the albums that came before it.
